Balance Boot
The goal of this project is to design and develop a less intrusive balance aid that utilizes this phenomenon via haptic touch to be used by people suffering from a wide variety of balance disorders. We will attempt to improve patients’ balance by augmenting their proprioceptive signals that have decayed or been lost using stochastic resonance. The device will 1) send haptic signals to the patient, and 2) will give constant feedback about both orientation. Through the utilization of stochastic resonance vibrations to amplify incoming proprioceptive signals on the foot and braces on either side of each shin to provide mechanical support, our Balance Boot will enhance the user's sense of balance.
